They Bring The Music To Us: 3hive

In my feature of Fluxblog I stated that it was the first music blog that I ever visited regularly, this statement was wrong (but not a lie), as just today as I was perusing the interwebz I found a music blog that has laid buried deep inside my subconscious for quite sometime. Now I'm here to right that wrong and present to you 3hive, the REAL first ever music blog that I ever visited regularly.

3hive has been sharing the sharing for quite some time now and is run by Jon Armstrong, Sean Ziebarth, and Sam Cannon. What separates 3hive from just about every other mp3 blog in existence is the fact that every single mp3 posted on 3hive links back to the performing artists media/downloads/music webpage where they found it, meaning that the artists/record label themselves have put up the mp3 for a listen which makes 3hive slightly more legal in the realm of quasi-legality that is mp3 blogging. 3hive was also one of the first blogs in my experience to add what is now commonplace among mp3 blogs, the "Stream This Page" feature which allows you to stream a .m3u playlist file in the music browser of your choice. This simple implementation allows the reader to listen to every song featured (and there are lots on 3hive) in order of date posted without having to download every single file to their hard drive, thus making the process of only keeping the songs that they like a breeze.

3hive posts daily (or should I say nightly) usually in the wee hours of the morning, which makes it the perfect blog to wake up to every morning. One other thing 3hive has perfected (which every other mp3 blog should yearn to do half as well) is their extensive Archiving system which makes finding that post you read a month ago about your favorite band as easy as pie. 3hive extends their sharing in podcast format which is very well produced.

I can't for the life of me remember why I stopped visiting 3hive, most likely it just got lost in the obscurity of my bookmarks, but it may have also have had something to do with the fact that since 3hive puts up new tracks every single day it may seem that they are trying too hard to find new music and that they are putting up music simply to fill that days quota and not because it's necessarily good. Overall though the good things about 3hive outweigh the bad, and I officially award them 5 out of 5 bunches of grapes!
