They Bring The Music To Us: Fluxblog

advertisement

Fluxblog by Matthew Perpetua, was the first mp3 blog that I ever visited regularly, it got to the point that I would check it every day and find something new and interesting.

I first heard of this blog on the podcast Inside The Net, now known as Net @ Nite, with Amber Mac and Leo Laporte, where they mentioned it as an aside to another topic. The next day I headed over to fluxblog.org and read some of his pieces and downloaded a few songs. I was instantly blown away, EVERY single song that he offered I liked - no loved. It came to the point that if I didn't have enough time to actually read the posts of the songs or listen to them before hand I would just download them all and listen to them later, full well knowing that none of them would be garbage. It was Fluxblog which introduced me to some of the music that is popular today, over a year before anyone else even knew about it. Every so often Fluxblog makes me want to open my own mp3 blog but then I realize that the only music I listen to is from Fluxblog so my mp3 blog would basically just be an RSS feed of it! One interesting idea that Perpetua has is where he will post a song and then describe what he thinks a music video of it should contain based solely on the feelings he gets when listening to it.

Perpetua has branched out from his mp3 blogging roots and writes about music for several other publications including The Movie Binge where he and a crack team attempt to review every movie that comes out during the summer months.

I'm sad to say however that lately Perpetua's choice of music has been less than spot on for my tastes at least, and Fluxblog has slipped from the number one spot on my mp3 blog listings, for this reason I've giving Fluxblog a 4 out of 5 bunches of grapes.

Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

Have you visited freeindie.com? It's the first (and pretty much only) mp3 blog I visit.
